Slow Runner is Michael Flynn, an Americana-adjacent singer/songwriter based in western North Carolina. His songs have been featured on shows like Grey’s Anatomy and Shameless, and on commercials for useful products like cars and shampoo. He’s also won a few awards for songwriting, most recently the 2021 Newsong Music Grand Prize. After a few year performing under his own name, Michael signed a record deal with SonyBMG in 2006 and began releasing music as Slow Runner in a collaboration with producer/multi-instrumentalist Josh Kaler and other musical friends. Slow Runner has spawned 6 full length albums among other EPs and singles, and has toured internationally with acts like The Avett Brothers, Josh Ritter, Built to Spill, William Fitzsimmons, and many others.
I use the symbolic beauty and movement of the human form as a recurring motif to explore connection, resilience, and the interwoven nature of individual and collective experiences. My reductive techniques strip each piece down to its most essential elements, highlighting the expressive power of the human form and inviting viewers to engage intuitively. I seek to capture the essence of what I experience—the subtle connections and emotions that arise from the act of observing.

New Belgium Brewing’s success story over the past 30+ years is the direct result of that bold business model. As a Human Powered Business, we invest more in our coworkers, and, in turn, they invest more of themselves in the business. We also consider our broader impact on the world around us. We’re certainly not perfect by any means, yet we know in the long run that businesses investing in the wellbeing of people and our planet show greater resilience and better long-term financial performance.Â
But caring for the wellbeing of people and addressing our biggest societal challenges, including our impact on the planet, is work that requires collaboration from all of us. While I’m proud of our ambition to change the way business is done here at New Belgium, I recognize this approach must extend beyond our own walls if we want to see more meaningful change. Â
